Perform general maintenance, minor repairs, and installations across SAMSA facilities to ensure operational safety, functionality, and compliance with applicable standards supporting core maritime safety mandate without disruption.
Job Description
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Document and Courier Management
Sort, register, and distribute all incoming documents accurately and promptly.
Address, package, and dispatch outgoing parcels securely to prevent transit damage.
Order stationery from couriers timeously to maintain operational continuity.
Copying and Binding Operations.
Resolve copier paper jams and replenish paper supplies as required.
Support binding of board packs, training documents, and related materials.
Facilities Minor Maintenance
Conduct routine inspections of office facilities, identifying defects proactively.
Perform basic repairs: door lock replacements, light bulb/tube changes, and minor plumbing fixes.
Oversee contractors, escort them onsite, and monitor standby generator diesel levels, and alert supervisor for replenishment.
Safety and Compliance
Adhere to ladder safety regulations and report unsafe conditions to supervisor/safety representative immediately.
Meeting and Logistics Support
Prepare board/training rooms for internal/external meetings (setup, asset handling) and restore post-use.
Transport supplies, boxes, and assets as directed.
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Matric Certificate (NQF 4), and no experience as a general assistant focusing on handyman duties or
Grade 10 (NQF 2), and one (1) year experience as a general assistant focusing on handyman duties
Certificate in Facilities\Plumbing\Electrician (NQF 5) would be an added advantage
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Basic principles of carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and painting.
Tool identification, maintenance, and safe usage across trades.
Minor repairs: fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing taps, light fittings, and door hardware.
Installation: shelves, basic fixtures, and assembly of flat-pack furniture.
Maintenance: surface preparation, painting, patching walls, and general upkeep of SAMSA facilities.
Record-keeping: logging jobs, reporting defects, and basic digital work orders.
