What Is the Learner Pharmacist’s Assistant Programme?

The Learner Pharmacist’s Assistant Programme is a structured training opportunity that allows participants to work under qualified pharmacists while studying toward an accredited qualification.

Successful candidates will:

  • Assist pharmacists with daily pharmaceutical services
  • Gain hands-on experience in healthcare facilities
  • Receive accredited training through a provider recognised by the South African Pharmacy Council
  • Work towards becoming a registered Post-Basic Pharmacist’s Assistant

This programme is ideal for individuals passionate about healthcare, science, and helping communities.


Contract Duration

The programme runs in two phases:

  • First Phase: 12-month contract to complete the Basic Pharmacist’s Assistant qualification
  • Second Phase: Additional 12 months (based on performance) to complete the Post-Basic qualification

This means you can gain up to 24 months of structured training and work experience.


Monthly Stipend

Participants will receive a monthly stipend of:

  • R5,345.75 per month

This helps support learners financially while they gain valuable skills and qualifications.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Have a National Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • Must have Mathematics (NOT Mathematical Literacy)
  • Must have Physical Sciences and/or Life Sciences
  • Or hold an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Clearly show subject results on your CV

This programme is specifically designed for youth who meet academic requirements and want to build a career in the pharmaceutical or healthcare sector.

During the programme, learners will develop essential skills such as:

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete:
